Our love story
We met the old fashioned way - on the app that’s “designed to be deleted.”
In the end of April 2022, we both downloaded Hinge and got to swiping. (Shout out to those of you attending the wedding who participated in hyping us through our swiping ). We matched just before Cam’s birthday trip back to Asheville and while Vanessa was celebrating the wedding of her friends in Greensboro. At this time, Cam lived in Raleigh and worked at NC State and Vanessa’s firm had a satellite office in downtown Raleigh . After weeks of cupcaking, we set up our first date in May, when V would next be working in Raleigh.
From there we became regulars on highway 40, visiting each other between Wilmington and Raleigh almost every weekend. By June, Cam came to be Vanessa’s date to the prom, a Pride fundraiser in Wilmington. We celebrated in true prom style, going out to a boujee restaurant in full formal wear and taking pics on a throwback digital camera that our ADHD asses still have yet to develop. It was that weekend that we made things “official.”
In the years that followed we took trips, hung with each others family and friends until you all grew to be both of our family and friends. We spent holidays in Jacksonville and Asheville and lots of nights in downtown Raleigh. Vanessa brought Cam to hella karaoke, cool wine and art bars and rallies, and Cam brought V to her favorite breweries, to see her guy Hozier, to lose gracefully at Pickleball and to see more sports than she had ever seen in her lifetime thus far. We traveled to Puerto Rico for Vanessa’s work conference and turned up in the streets at the Festival de Calle San Sebastian. We saw Messi play and spent hours by the pool in Cam’s old city of Ft. Lauderdale on a trip with Keely and all the kids.
After almost 2 years of living between the coast and the Triangle, Cam accepted a position at UNCW and moved in with Vanessa and Max, along with our chiweenie we rescued together, Quinn, and our grand-dinosaur, Bagel (Max’s leopard gecko). While we’ve known we were headed to this wedding for some time, we still wanted to be romantic and propose and were cross plotting on each other. Vanessa proposed to Cam in her happy place (our garden) after celebrating finishing the deck we rebuilt on our home with Vanessa’s dad, on the backyard projector screen Cam got her for her birthday. Cam proposed to Vanessa in Cam’s favorite throwback 90’s clurb downtown Raleigh, while out celebrating V’s birthday with our homegirls.
And now we are ready to get married and celebrate our love story with all of you!
